A limiter sets a ceiling. TABAN sets a floor. Free, forever · VST3 and AU on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) · VST3 on Windows.
“Taban” is Turkish for floor. A limiter keeps audio from rising above a ceiling; TABAN keeps it from falling below a floor. Raise one fader and the quiet syllables, soft notes and fading tails of a track come up to the level you set, while everything louder passes through untouched.
The lift is worked out from the level of the very sample it is applied to, so a loud sound arriving after a quiet one is never boosted on its way in: no output sample is louder than the input or the floor, whichever is higher. No lookahead, so no latency.
TABAN lifts by at most 24 dB and lets go near silence: the lift fades out between −80 and −96 dBFS, so room tone, dither and the end of a reverb tail are not dragged up. A steady note gets a steady gain, so TABAN adds no distortion to it.
